Listening and Following Directions: Asking Questions

Listen to the 3 conversations about getting an X-ray. What questions does the patient ask to make sure he or she understands the nurse's instructions?

With a partner, pick one conversation and practice it. When you are ready, you will meet with Alaina to record the conversation.

Reading and Following Directions:
Read the story about a patient who gets an MRI

Look closely at the second and third paragraphs. How does a patient have an MRI? Imagine the woman comes back for a second MRI and you are the woman's nurse. What do you tell her to do? Create a conversation like the one you recorded. Write it in your notebook. Then record it with the teacher.

A cartoon: Click on the link to see the cartoon. The artists who drew the cartoon thinks that this is how nurses and technicians give a patient directions for an MRI. Do you think the artist is happy about this? Why or why not?

Prepare your presentation:
1. Make a sign like the one you made in class last time. You need: a title, the steps and a picture.
2. Make a vocabulary list for your classmates. What are important words they need to know to understand your instructions? Use Microsoft Word.
3. Find any pictures you need to help you give your presentation.
